Summer Reading for Grade 8

 

Required Reading:

 

  1. Catching Fire – Suzanne Collins
  2. Tuesdays with Morrie – Mitch Albom
  3. Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life

 

Each student is required to complete a summer reading book outline form for the 2 assigned books (Catching Fire and Tuesdays with Morrie). Students will be tested on these novels in September after a classroom review and discussion for each novel. The test will be an open notebook test.

  5. Explain how the conflicts are resolves. If they are not resolved, explain.
  6. Does the protagonist change as a result of the conflict(s)? Why?/Why not?
  7. What is the setting of the story?
  8. What is the climax/turning point of the story? Explain.
  9. From what point of view is the story told?
  10. What is a theme that you identified in the story?
  11. Copy a passage from the book that depicts this theme (write page number next to quote).
  12. What did you like best about the book? Why?
  13. What did you like least about the book? Why?
  14. Write a 2 page summary of the novel (Use lined paper or type).
