Pre-Kindergarten (Mrs. Kelly)

         Pre-kindergarten MAY/JUNE newsletter

Can you believe that it is May already?  And that school is almost over for the year?  It seems like only yesterday that we welcomed all of you.   It has been a pleasure getting to know each of your children and having you and your child become a part of our “family” this year.

We are so proud of them all and hope we’ve made a positive impact on them while creating lasting memories.  Communication and cooperation between us and you, the parents, has made success stories of all the children.  Thank you for sharing your child with us.  We are so blessed!

During the summer, children tend to “forget” things they have learned.  This is a natural occurrence.  So, during the summer, please work with your child on counting to 100 (by 2’s, 5’s, 10’s) since we have been doing this in class; number recognition up to 20; the alphabet and the phonetic sounds associated with letter; stressing upper and lower case when writing.  And as always, continue to read to them.

Spring weather

A reminder to parents: May and June are wonderful weather months. Preschool will take advantage of this weather. We will be spending more time outside when we can. Please make sure your child is wearing sun block and dressed for the temperature of the day. We would like to give a gentle reminder that sandals, flip flops and crocs are not good school shoes. Students who wear these shoes spend most of recess fixing their shoes and dealing with prickly, uncomfortable mulch on their feet. Please try to send your student in sneakers every day. If it is a difficult morning, please put the sneakers in the backpack, and we can help them change at school.

Please keep in mind…

  • If you have not done so, please make sure you have completed your online enrollment for next year. If your child in returning to Mater Dolorosa, please go on and re-enroll them as kindergarten is growing quickly.  If your child in not returning, please make sure to go online and withdraw your child instead of choosing a grade.  This is important as you will start to get charged at the beginning of the new school year.
  • At the end of the year, we are always looking for parents to take different items home to do some heavy duty cleaning-smocks, toys, etc. We will post when we are ready to start that process.  These are counted as volunteer hours.  Feel free to reach out to us if you are interested.
  • GREAT JOB FAMILIES! We appreciate all that you do and have done, your children are absolutely wonderful! They amaze us and have made us laugh every day, and we are blessed to have been their teachers.  It will be hard to let them go this year.  Wishing you all a happy and restful Summer!
