What a wonderful fall we’re having in Pre-K. We’re looking forward to seeing how our little community grows and develops, always following the example set by Jesus.

Our curriculum for this month continues to look at animals, moving into a focus on different types of animal habitats.

We will keep working on phonological awareness, letter and letter sound identification, rhyme, and counting syllables. For math we’ll be practicing recognizing numerals, number ordering, and counting on. We’re also working on the idea of one more/one less, and patterns. 

We’ll be learning about Native Americans and their important role in helping the Pilgrims survive, and how this led to the first Thanksgiving. We’ll be enjoying some related crafts and stories.

We have already been working on our songs for the Christmas Concert, which will be on Wednesday, December 16th at 6PM. We are also learning “Mama Crow” by Sarah Pirtle, a lovely song that features counting backwards and beautiful imagery of God’s creation on and around a mountain. And be prepared to hear about Albuquerque Turkey!

We’ll work in some baking and more simple science.

As for the rest of what will be happening in Pre-K – it will likely be directed by the children! They have wonderful ideas.

Albuquerque Turkey
Albuquerque is a turkey,
And he’s feathered and he’s fine!
And he wobbles and he gobbles
And he’s absolutely mine.
He’s the best pet you can get yet
Better than a dog or cat.
He’s my Albuquerque turkey
And I’m awfully glad of that!

Thanksgiving
It smells like Thanksgiving, just like it should.
Mash the potatoes. Mmmm are they good!
It smells like Thanksgiving, my oh my!
Roll out the dough for a big pumpkin pie!
