Preschool 4 (Mrs. Strand)

February 2, 2026

Hello Families!

Happy (continued) Catholic Schools Week! The snow may have bumped our schedule a bit, but that just extends the fun. We’re looking forward to our pizza lunch and to cheering the “big kids” on in the annual volleyball matchup.

Right now we’re learning about the planets in our solar system. We’ll be exploring this topic through books, art, and songs, and of course some hands-on science.

We’re also working on important social skills that can be challenging, including waiting before talking (not interrupting) and letting everyone be in charge of themselves (not being bossy). It is typical for preschoolers to struggle with these.

And every day we talk about Jesus’s lessons on kindness and sharing.

We’ll be celebrating  Valentine’s Day on Friday, February 13th. The easiest way to organize that from this end is for each child to bring in nine identical signed Valentines (or ten if they want one for themselves) that they can put in the children’s bags. Of course, if your child wishes to write names on their cards, that’s fine too. I’ll send a list of the children’s names on Class Dojo.

If your child’s Valentines include treats, we ask that ingredients be clearly listed, and that they not contain eggs or blackberries.

In phonological awareness, we’re talking about syllables, in addition to continuing to work with letter sounds, rhymes, and all the important parts of our pre-literacy curriculum. We practice writing our names daily, too, and will start looking at uppercase vs. lowercase letters. In math skills, we’re continuing with counting on and numeral recognition.

February Vacation will be the week of the 16th.

Thank you for sharing your children with our preschool program. They are fun, funny, and wonderful.

Out came the sun and it shone all day,
One little snowman melted away.
