Grade 4 (Mrs. Wall)

March 1, 2026

Greetings 4th graders and families!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  It was such a nice tease of Spring on Saturday!

Homework is given Monday through Thursday.  There are no longer packets like in 3rd grade. It is given daily and due the next day.  The homework given is based on what we learn in class that day.  Homework will consist of the following: 1 double sided math page based on what we learned in math class that day, a times table 3 times each worksheet based on the fact we are working on that week, and a spelling practice sheet.  These are to be completed nightly, put back into the yellow homework folder, and returned to me the next day.  Missing homework will require a note sent home for parent signature and the completed homework returned the next day.

Religion: We will be beginning Unit 4 in our Religion Books this week and this Unit focuses on the Sacraments.  We will also be reading our Stations of The Cross on Fridays as we are now in the season of Lent.

ELA:  Spelling- Pretests are given on Monday to introduce the words.  Please have your child study their words daily.  Tests are always on Fridays.  Cursive handwriting is practiced daily in our classroom. Cursive handwriting is a grade on the report cards.  Please encourage your child to practice.  This is the only grade given by myself this year that is in the form of E, VG, S, N, U.  We have finished our novel study on Matilda and have begun our next Novel Study on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl.  March Book Reports (Legends, Myths, or Fables) are due on March 31st.  This book report is a 5 paragraph book report.  Typed is preferred but it can also be NEATLY written.  Also, these books tend to be very short, I do not expect a big chapter book for this report.    Please remember NO GRAPHIC NOVELS!!

Math:  The students now take a true mad minute.  They now have a bit of an incentive to try and get that “100” on their mad minute quizzes.  If they get all the facts done and correct on their mad minute, they will not need to take the quiz or have times tables homework the rest of the week.  They have each day to achieve this however, whatever grade they receive by Friday becomes their grade for that math fact.  This week is the 7’s.  We will also have a TEST on Topic 10 this week and will be beginning Topic 12 on decimals and Fractions also.

SOCIAL STUDIES-We will begin the Chapter on the Northeast in the next couple weeks.

SCIENCE- We will begin Unit 2 on Kinds of Energy

Our Specials this year are as follows:

Mondays: Liturgical Music

Wednesdays: Spanish and Gym (wear gym uniforms!)

Fridays: Computers
