There will NOT be homework this week in Spelling or Math. The only homework will be the times tables 3x each if your student does not receive the 100 on their mad minute.
Homework is given Monday through Thursday. There are no longer packets like in 3rd grade. It is given daily and due the next day. The homework given is based on what we learn in class that day. Homework will consist of the following: 1 double sided math page based on what we learned in math class that day, a times table 3 times each worksheet based on the fact we are working on that week, and a spelling practice sheet. These are to be completed nightly, put back into the yellow homework folder, and returned to me the next day. Missing homework will require a note sent home for parent signature and the completed homework returned the next day.
Religion: We will be beginning Unit 3’s Session 13 in our books this week.
ELA: Spelling- Pretests are given on Monday to introduce the words. Please have your child study their words daily. Tests are always on Fridays. Cursive handwriting is practiced daily in our classroom. Cursive handwriting is a grade on the report cards. Please encourage your child to practice. This is the only grade given by myself this year that is in the form of E, VG, S, N, U. We have finished our novel study on The BFG and have begun our next Novel Study on Matilda by Roald Dahl. January Book Reports (Non Fiction)are due this Friday. I will be sending home the February Guidelines tomorrow and the accompanying poster later this week. February’s book report is a Presidential Biography. Please remember NO GRAPHIC NOVELS!!
Math: We will not be working with our books this week, since I am not giving homework. We will do review papers, math centers, and multiplication Bingo this week. Last week we went back to the 2’s facts. The students now take a true mad minute. They now have a bit of an incentive to try band get that “100” on their mad minute quizzes. If they get all the facts done and correct on their mad minute, they will not need to take the quiz or have times tables homework the rest of the week. They have each day to achieve this however, whatever grade they receive by Friday becomes their grade for that math fact. This week is the 3’s.
SOCIAL STUDIES-We will begin the Chapter on the Northeast this week
Our Specials this year are as follows:
Mondays: Liturgical Music
Wednesdays: Spanish and Gym (wear gym uniforms!)
Fridays: Computers
