Grade 4 (Mrs. Wall)

December 1, 2025

Greetings 4th graders and families!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break!

Homework is given Monday through Thursday.  There are no longer packets like in 3rd grade. It is given daily and due the next day.  The homework given is based on what we learn in class that day.  Homework will consist of the following: 1 double sided math page based on what we learned in math class that day, a times table 3 times each worksheet based on the fact we are working on that week, and a spelling practice sheet.  These are to be completed nightly, put back into the yellow homework folder, and returned to me the next day.  Missing homework will require a note sent home for parent signature and the completed homework returned the next day.

Religion: Sunday, November 30th marks the first day of the season of Advent.  We are preparing for the birth of Jesus!! Last week we made our very own Advent wreaths which we will light daily in school.  We will be learning all about the Advent season in the coming weeks and about Saint Nicholas Day which falls on December 6th.

ELA:  Spelling- Pretests are given on Monday to introduce the words.  Please have your child study their words daily.  Tests are always on Fridays.  Cursive handwriting is practiced daily in our classroom. Cursive handwriting is a grade on the report cards.  Please encourage your child to practice.  This is the only grade given by myself this year that is in the form of E, VG, S, N, U.  We have finished our novel study on The BFG and have begun our next Novel Study on The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate.  We have also begun our monthly book reports.  We will be having our November Report presentations during the next couple days.  December’s guidelines have already gone home.  This project is a cereal box and the genre is Historical Fiction.  These signed parent slips are due 12/1/25 and the project is due 12/23/25. The books your student chooses should be on their reading level and does not to be a thick book.  Historical Fiction is most of the I survived series or something like Little House on the Prairie.  Please remember NO GRAPHIC NOVELS!!

Math: We will be finishing Topic 5 Long Division this week and beginning Topic 7 on factors and multiples, and Prime & Composite numbers.  The math fact we are focusing on is the 9’s and 10’s this week.  We take a daily mad minute and on Fridays I take the mad minute for a grade.    Mad minute quizzes will be 2 min to start until we get through all the math facts to 12 and then we will go down to a true mad minute.  This most likely happens in late January.  Please encourage your child to practice their facts and know them by heart!  It will be extremely important this year to know your math facts when we work on long division and beyond in 4th grade. This week’s Fact to focus on is the 9’s and 10’s mixed

SOCIAL STUDIES-We will begin Chapter 3 this week

Wednesdays: Spanish and Gym (wear gym uniforms!)
