Homework has begun and the students have done well with it so far!  Homework is given every night Monday-Thursday and consists of the following: A Spelling sheet, a times tables 3x each sheet depending on the fact we are working on, and a math sheet reviewing what was learned in class that day and a review of past lessons.  Homework is assigned daily and expected to be returned the following day.  If homework is missing, a note will go home to be signed and returned along with the missing work.  Monthly book report projects will also be assigned beginning in November.  More information about these will be sent home in the near future.

What we are working on in September:

Religion: We learned about Salvation and are currently working on learning about God’s Creation and how we can care for it.  Our virtue of the month is Faith and we are learning about different Saints that have represented this virtue.

ELA: Spelling has begun!  Please have your student practice their spelling words daily!  Tests are always on Fridays or the last school day of the week.

Math: We will be working on Adding and subtracting the next couple of weeks and then moving on to multiplication!! A mad minute test is given daily, depending on the weekly fact we are working on.  Friday’s mad minute is taken for a grade.  This coming week’s math fact will be the 2’s and 3’s mixed.  Knowing our math facts fluently is paramount this year!  Beginning with bigger multiplication problems and especially going into long division and beyond. Everything depends on knowing your facts!!  So, PLEASE STUDY!!

SOCIAL STUDIES: We are learning about the different Regions of the United States this year.  We have started learning about the beginnings of the U.S. and how and when the different states came to be, along with how the government works.

SCIENCE: We will be learning about Forces and Energy in Unit 1

***Your student begins to receive actual letter grades this year in 4th grade (A, B, C, D, F).

Please note: If you see a number grade on your students returned work, I have taken it for a grade and entered it into FACTS.  If you see a “T” with a circle around it, we have either done the work together or corrected together. If you see a check or a check plus or check minus then I have just checked it off that the work was done and it does not get entered for a grade. The same if it just has a number wrong or a big correct sign.  These are not entered into FACTS.  The only subject that is still graded as E, VG, S, N, and U is handwriting (cursive) which is a report card grade this year.  Parents, you have the ability this year, to check FACTS for your student’s grades.  Progress report paper copies do not go home this year.  Grades will be entered in time for you to check on your student’s progress.  I have already begun entering the grades, so you are more than welcome to check them out!!

****ALSO, ON ANOTHER NOTE: ALL SQUISHIES (needos, ETC) HAVE BEEN BANNED.  THIS INCLUDES LITTLE TOYS AND DODADS AS WELL.  They have become a big distraction and have been ripped open and leaking also, forcing us to have to pause our learning to clean up the mess.  Any toys, squishies , etc brought to school will be taken away until June if seen at their desks.  This is the policy of many teachers and the school, not just mine.  Thank you for your understanding!

Below is a supply list for the 2026-2027 school year!  I am asking all my incoming 4th graders to PLEASE practice your math facts over the summer.  It’s very important that you know your facts for all the math we are about to learn this year-especially when we get to long division!!  We will also have a mad minute timed test our first day!!  Also, keep up with your reading this summer!  There are no summer reading assignments, just read for fun!  It can be fun to get lost in a good book!!  I look forward to seeing you all in August!  Happy Summer!!
