Grade 5-2 Homeroom & Religion + Grades 5-8 Spelling & Vocabulary (Mr. Michael Zayas)

Welcome to Grade 5-2 Homeroom and Religion, as well as Grades 5-8 ELA 2 (Spelling and Vocabulary Workshop)!

Please see the following information regarding what we will cover during the month of October:

Religion – Homeroom 5-2:  Virtue of Reverence for the month of October (focus on St. Tarcissius, as well as other Saints); the Year of St. Francis Jubilee Year; October is a month dedicated to the Rosary, so we will be learning all about how to pray the Rosary, as well as pray the Rosary as a class; All Hallow’s Eve and the Catholic background of Halloween.

Week of 10.12.26

Religion – Homeroom 5-2 – We will have a Ch. 1 Religion Test on Tuesday, Oct. 13th (students were informed last week).

Grades 5-1 & 5-2 Spelling and Vocabulary Workshop – Spelling – Students were given their MyView Unit 1.3 Spelling word lists on Friday, 10.9, and were encouraged to begin studying the list.  As it will be a short week, our tests will be scheduled for Monday, Oct. 19.   Vocabulary Workshop – Students will now be working in Unit 5, and will be expected to study the list of 12 words independently. We work heavily in the textbook, and all classwork assignments, as well as homework assignments, are to be considered as essential to the independent learning process.  Additional IXL assignments will be shared, as well, and these are also to be understood as mandatory assignments.  Students have been encouraged to utilize their www.sadlierconnect.com website to practice their unit words in an interactive way throughout the week.  VW Unit 5 Test is scheduled for Monday, Oct. Friday, Oct. 9.

Grade 6-8 – Spelling and Vocabulary Workshop – We are now into Unit 5 of our Vocabulary Workshop textbooks. Beginning Tue., 10.13, and moving forward, 6-8 classes will now work with both List A and B words within their units.  This will provide opportunities for students to be challenged, with appropriate student support given, and I am confident that our students will rise to this challenge.  There will be a heavy reliance on textbook usage, as well as additional supplemental activities, which may include mandatory digital assignments in IXL.  All assignments, both classwork and homework, should be understood as essential to the learning process.   Our Unit 5 Spelling and Vocabulary Workshop Tests are scheduled for Monday, 10.19, and Sets A and B word lists are included, and should be studied.

Thank you for your support.
