Pre-Kindergarten (Mrs. Kelly)

We are so excited about starting another school year with all of our new and returning families. We can’t wait to see how much the returning children have grown, and hear all about the exciting things they have done over the summer!  We are also thrilled to be welcoming all of the families that are new to the Pre-kindergarten program this year.  We look forward to getting to know each and every one of them.  Preschool is a place to learn through fun, play experiences.  In Pre-kindergarten, as we follow the Massachusetts Standards for preschool, we will challenge your child even more to continue to develop their fine motor skills, their cognitive skills, and to foster that creativity in a positive environment to get them ready for their future, Kindergarten!

This month in Pre-kindergarten

August 31st – September 4thGetting used to new routines and schedules.  Special stories, songs and activities will help to introduce the children to each other, the school environment and ourselves.

September 7th – 11th: Colors and shapes – Starting off with colors and shapes will help make our students feel comfortable and confident as four year-olds will be familiar with most colors and the more common shapes, such as circle, square and triangle.  In the days that follow, we will use the shapes that we learn about in class to make many wonderful crafts.  The children will delight in the stories, songs, and activities that will help to reinforce these concepts.  In addition, the children will be introduced to their journals, calendar, handwriting program and much more.  We will also begin our Alpha Bags!  Look for it in your child’s folder!

September 14th – September 18th: All about Me and Friendships – This theme will address skills and concepts that are important in growing up such as: recognizing and learning our name, learning emotions, and most of all, learning everyone is unique and special.  There will be many activities to help the children discover their talents and skills.  Learning to be a good friend and classmate is a key topic this week.  Special stories, games, and lessons will help to develop our new friendships.  We welcome any family photos that your child may like to share with us during circle time.

September 21st – October 2nd: Fall and legend of Johnny Appleseed: The children will discover the magical story of the Star in the Apple and the famous “Apple Annie”.  The students will have the opportunity to learn and taste of variety of apples.
