Spanish (Sra. James)

Hola! Welcome to Spanish class…Bienvenidos! It is my pleasure to be returning to MDS this school year and to continue to guide your children in their learning and acquisition of Spanish.

Although our time is limited, we have made good progress over the past two years. The emphasis during class time will continue to be on communication, both spoken and written. By the end of their tenure at MDS, it is my expectation that students will have an understanding of where Spanish is spoken in the world as well as proficiency in basic conversational Spanish. 

Middle school students will also be exposed to verb and grammar constructions as well as expanded vocabulary. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of participation and active engagement in all classroom activities. My goal is to communicate in the classroom in Spanish 90% of our time together. This is a lofty goal but one our students are ready to embrace.

I will provide supplies for K-3 students. Grades 4-8 should bring a sharpened pencil to class every day. General/shared classroom supplies needed:  

Sharpened pencils

Crayola colored pencils

Kleenex tissues

Copy paper

I could also use an extra electric pencil sharpener for the room.  And…I am in the process of purchasing textbooks for middle school students. The text is Spanish for Mastery, level one. The authors are Valette and Valette. It is out of print but there are used copies out there in cyberspace! If you happen upon a copy or two, please consider purchasing for general classroom use. Look for an orange textbook, not the workbook.
